Quats work by breaking down cell membranes on contact, which kills bacteria, fungi, algae, and some viruses on surfaces. This is why growers use Physan 20 on orchids for sanitizing. It does not cure an infection already inside the plant.
Physan 20 Dilution for Orchids
The manufacturer’s orchid page lists two rates. Adult plants get 2 teaspoons of Physan 20 per gallon of water as a spray or drench, and pots, benches, and freshly divided plants get 1 tablespoon per gallon.

What Physan 20 Does Not Treat
Physan 20 for orchids will not cure rot that has already spread inside the tissue. Once a pathogen is established under the surface, a contact disinfectant cannot reach it.
It also will not control water molds like Pythium and Phytophthora, the organisms behind crown rot and black rot. These are oomycetes, not true fungi, and they need a product specifically labeled for them.

Dendrobiums and other sensitive genera can react poorly to some disinfectants, so watch new growth after the first application. If you see any spotting or burn, dilute further next time.
